Carlos T. Perez Brito United Kingdom Senior Social Development Specialist, World Bank Singapore

 

Carlos T. Pérez-Brito is a Senior Social Development Specialist at the World Bank based in Singapore, focusing on broader sustainability agenda, including Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), sustainable infrastructure, E&S risk management, and E&S Integrity in carbon markets. He also serves as Social-ESG coordinator and South Asia and the Pacific Indigenous Peoples Focal Point from the WB Singapore Office.

From 2021 to 2024, Carlos served as Social Risk Management Coordinator for Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, based in Manila, Philippines and Tokyo, Japan. Previously, he was Social Risk Management Coordinator for Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru, stationed in Lima, Peru, where he was instrumental in promoting E&S policy reforms, integrating cutting-edge methodologies for social risk assessment and mitigation. His work focuses on promoting social sustainability and sustainable infrastructure, collaborating closely with governments, regulators, and the private sector to advance their sustainability agendas.

Carlos has authored and spearheaded numerous publications at the World Bank, addressing critical issues such as E&S Integrity in Carbon Markets, Benefit Sharing schemes, Indigenous Peoples, Social and Environmental Impact Assessment and risks management in energy, transport, water, forestry, and social sector projects. Before joining the World Bank, he held roles as a Social Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) in Washington, DC, a Social Sector Specialist at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and a Visiting Scholar at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Mexico.
