SIAC 2026 Poster Competition

Introduction

The Social Impact Assessment in Emerging Economies Conference and Exhibition (SIAC2026) invites students from universities inside/outside Malaysia, early-career researchers, consultants, NGOs, and practitioners to participate in the SIAC 2026 poster competition themed ‘Emerging Voices, Shared Futures: Advancing Social Impact Assessment’.

The competition aims to provide a platform for students/non-students to showcase innovative research, case studies, practical experiences, and best practices related to Social Impact Assessment (SIA), sustainability, community development, stakeholder engagement, social governance, and other related fields.

Competition Categories

The competition is divided into three categories:

Category A

Undergraduate Students

Open to students currently enrolled in bachelor's degree programmes.

Category B

Postgraduate Students

Open to students currently enrolled in master's or doctoral degree programmes.

Category C

Open Category

Open to those not listed in Category A or Category B, including early-career researchers, consultants, NGOs and practitioners.

Eligibility

The competition is open to students from universities or higher education institutions inside and outside Malaysia, as well as early-career researchers, consultants, NGOs and practitioners.

Participation may be on an individual or group basis. A group submission may include up to five (5) members.

Student participants must be actively registered as students in the current semester at their respective institutions. Students may enter the competition with their lecturers or supervisors as advisors, who will be considered part of the group members.

There is no restriction on the number of poster submissions from each institution.

All submitted work must be original and must not infringe upon any copyright, intellectual property rights or ethical standards.

Posters that have been previously presented at other conferences may be submitted, provided the participants retain the rights to the work.

Posters should address topics related to one or more of the following areas:

Submission Fee

A non-refundable submission fee is required for each poster submission:

  • Category A: RM50.00 per poster
  • Category B: RM50.00 per poster
  • Category C: RM100.00 per poster

The submission fee must be paid before the poster submission deadline.

Proof of payment must be uploaded together with the poster submission.

Posters submitted without proof of payment will not be considered for review.

Poster Format, Layout and Branding Requirements

Language

Posters may be prepared in either:

  • English; or
  • Bahasa Malaysia.

Poster Size and Orientation

  1. Posters must be prepared in A0 size (841 mm × 1189 mm), with layout in Portrait (Vertical) Orientation only. All content, including text, figures, tables, and references, must fit within a single A0 poster.
  2. Font sizes should be sufficiently large and readable from a distance of at least one (1) metre.

Branding Requirements

  1. The official SIAC 2026 logo must be displayed prominently on the poster. The Organising Committee will provide a poster template indicating the placement of logos. From the audience’s view, the SIAC 2026 logo must be placed on the top right corner, while the institution’s logo must be placed on the left of the SIAC 2026 logo (see Appendix 1).

  2. The participant's university or institutional logo must also be displayed on the poster.
  3. The title, author name(s), and institutional affiliation(s) should appear below the logos.
  4. Participants shall not alter, distort, or modify the official SIAC 2026 logo.

Mandatory Poster Structure

Title

  • The title should be concise, informative, and clearly reflect the study.
  • Author name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) should be displayed below the title.

Abstract

  • Maximum 150 words.
  • The abstract should briefly summarize the background, problem statement, objectives, methodology, key findings, and conclusion.
  • Include three (3) to five (5) keywords immediately below the abstract.

Main Content

The poster should contain the following sections:

  1. Background/Introduction
  2. Problem Statement
  3. Objectives
  4. Methodology
  5. Findings/Results
  6. Conclusion
  7. References (if applicable)
  8. Relevant charts, diagrams, photographs, illustrations, or infographics

Design Requirements

  1. Posters should be visually attractive, professional, and easy to understand.
  2. Participants are encouraged to use high-quality graphics, charts, tables, photographs, and infographics to enhance communication of their work.
  3. The content should be organised logically and presented in a clear and concise manner.

Compliance with Official Template

  1. All selected posters must conform to the official SIAC 2026 Poster and Branding Guidelines.
  2. Posters that do not display both the SIAC 2026 logo and the participant's institutional logo may be rejected.
  3. The Organising Committee reserves the right to reject any poster that does not comply with the prescribed format, layout, or branding requirements.

Submission Procedure

Posters must be submitted electronically in PDF format through the designated conference submission portal.

Each poster submission must be accompanied by an executive summary (maximum 1,000 words) outlining the background, objectives, methodology, key findings, and significance of the work presented.

The participant(s) is/are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all submitted information.

All submissions must be received by the stated deadline.

5

Late submissions will not be accepted.

6

Submission of a poster implies acceptance of all competition rules and conditions.

Selection for Display

01

All submitted posters will undergo a screening and evaluation process by the Scientific Committee.

Only 20 posters will be selected for printing, exhibition, and judging during the conference.

Participants of selected posters will be notified by email on 20 September 2026.

Selection for display does not automatically guarantee an award. All displayed posters will undergo final judging during the conference.

Poster Exhibition

Only posters selected by the Scientific Committee will be displayed during SIAC 2026.

Selected participants are responsible for printing their own posters and bearing all associated printing costs.

Posters must be printed in AO portrait format (841 mm × 1189 mm) and brought to the conference venue by the participant.

4

The Organising Committee will provide the designated display space and mounting facilities.

5

Posters will be exhibited throughout the conference period and evaluated by the judging panel.

6

At least one participant should be present during the designated judging session to explain the poster and answer questions from judges.

All participants will receive e-certificates as proof of participation.

General Rules

Posters must represent original work conducted by the participant(s).

2

Appropriate acknowledgement must be given for any copyrighted materials, images, datasets, or other resources used.

Participants are responsible for obtaining any necessary ethical approvals related to the work presented.

4

Participants are responsible for obtaining consent for the use of data obtained from third parties.

5

The Organising Committee reserves the right to reject posters that contain plagiarism, fabricated data, or content that does not comply with these guidelines.

The Organising Committee reserves the right to amend the competition rules if necessary.

7

The judges' decisions are final and no appeals will be entertained.

8

By submitting a poster, participants grant permission to the Organising Committee to display, reproduce, photograph, and promote the poster for conference-related purposes with appropriate acknowledgement.
